Nelson I. Burgos
Born 1958 in Takoma, Washington. In my early years, I traveled the world as my father was in the Army. After his retirement I lived in Puerto Rico. Married to Linda F. Burgos and have two wonderful children (Nicole – 7 and Bryan – 5). I attended one year at the University of Puerto Rico (1975-76) and then attended the United States Air Force Academy (1976-80) where I obtained a B.S. Degree in Biology. After completing my service in the United States Air Force, I attended the Columbus School of Law (Catholic University) obtaining my J.D. in 1987 and Notre Dame Law School – London Campus in the summer of 1995. Bar Admissions include Maryland (1987), D.C. (1988), U.S.D.Ct. Maryland and D.C. (1988), Supreme Court of the United States (1991). Professional Associations: Maryland Hispanic Bar Association (President 96-97), Maryland State Bar Association, Bar Association of Montgomery County, District of Columbia Bar Association, Maryland Trial Lawyers Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, USAF Academy Association of Graduates (Lifetime Member and Class of 1980 Secretary). Former member of the Consumer Council of Maryland. I have lived and practiced law in Maryland since 1987.
Highlights during my tenure as President of the Maryland Hispanic Bar Association – the organization received an award from the Maryland State Bar Association for the Local and Specialty Bar Associations Best Project for our legal fairs and Court Open-Houses. The organization received a grant from the American Bar Association. We hosted a reception for Central and South American judges at the U.S. District Courthouse in Greenbelt. And the organization sponsored and participated in numerous legal fairs in ongoing efforts to disseminate useful information to the Spanish speaking community. I also had the opportunity, and great honor, to speak to a group of newly sworn Maryland attorneys at the Court of Appeals in Annapolis.
