Roberto N. Allen, Esq.

Roberto N. Allen, Esq. is Immediate Past President (2022) of the Maryland Hispanic Bar Association. He is the Managing Partner of Witherup Allen Law. Mr. Allen established the Firm as a solo law practice in Montgomery County, Maryland in 2009. In 2021, his wife and law partner Margaret Witherup, Esq. joined the Firm to establish Witherup Allen Law.

Mr. Allen has been practicing Employment Law since 1997. Over the years, his practice has expanded to include Consumer Bankruptcy Law (Chapter 7 and Chapter 13), Immigration Law, and General Corporate/Business Law for small businesses.

Before law school, Mr. Allen was a mathematics professor at Goucher College and ran an educational technology consulting firm while attending night law school at the University of Maryland. Mr. Allen is Past President of the Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Past Chair of the Maryland Hispanic Business Conference, and Past Vice Chair of the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights. He is a recipient of the Daily Record’s Leadership in Law Award and was recognized as a Top 100 MBE by Baltimore City, Maryland. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Board of Child Care of the United Methodist Church, which runs the Caminos Program for unaccompanied immigrant youth.

Mr. Allen holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Maryland Carey School of Law (1997); a Master of Arts in Mathematics from The Johns Hopkins University (1991); and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from Tulane University (1988). He completed his Junior year of engineering school in France at L’Université de Technologie de Compiègne. Born in Miami, Florida to a Cuban exile family, Mr. Allen is a native Spanish speaker and is fluent in French. He has lived in Maryland since 1988. He resides in Howard County, Maryland with his wife and law partner Maggie. Their three children are grown and have left the nest. When he is not practicing law, Mr. Allen enjoys traveling, farming, and planning his retirement.
