MHBA Quarterly Roundup – Fall 2014

MHBA’s Judicial Nominations Committee chaired by Llamilet Gutierrez and Jessica Quincosa interviewed and made recommendations to the Governor’s Judicial Nominating Commission for Montgomery County Circuit and District Court, Baltimore County District Court, and Anne Arundel District Court.  The Committee interviewed almost 50 applicants over a three day period.  Many thanks to the committee that included Camille Aponte-Rossini, Liset Collaso, Sandra Guzman-Salvado, Vivian Hernandez, David Krum, Joseph Morales, Dan Renart, Raphael Santini, and Raquel Smith.

MHBA members including the Hon. Yolanda Curtin, Llamilet Gutierrez, Raquel Smith, and Juan Sempertegui served on a panel hosted by the University of Baltimore Law School’s Latin American Law Student Association where each member discussed their upbringing, law school, and job search during and after law school.  The event was sponsored by LALSA, MHBA, and HNBA.

MHBA’s President, David Krum, President-Elect, Wanda Martinez, Secretary and Leadership Academy Fellow, Llamilet Gutierrez, and Board Member Jessica Quincosa attended the Maryland State Bar Association’s 55th Annual Conference of Bar Presidents.  During the conference, our members attended workshops and presentations where they were able to compare ideas with other specialty and local bar associations.  The MHBA will be using the information they learned in the planning of future events.

Judge Yolanda Curtin and Jessica Chipoco conducted mock interviews for the MHBA Pipeline Scholar applicants, and we are wishing all the Pipeline Scholars the best of luck as they are selected and matched with firms.   Our past scholar, Alvaro Llosa, received a job with The Law Offices of Roberto Allen.
