GABRIEL KLEIMAN
Gabe served as the
third president of the MHBA during the years 1995
to
1996. During Gabe’s tenure, the MHBA continued to build on the
visions of its founding members, Mayda Colon Tsaknis and Marielsa
Bernard, by partnering with the MSBA and other local bar associations to
address the legal needs of Maryland’s important Hispanic community as
well as other minority groups.
Accomplishments of
the 1995-1996 term included: organizing an open house at the
District Court of Maryland, including special programs for
Spanish-speaking members of the community; increased involvement and
visibility in the state judicial selection process by interviewing and
evaluating candidates for judicial appointment; translating into Spanish
of legal informational brochures and video of the MSBA; testifying
before the Commission on the Future of Maryland Courts on issues of
importance to the organization; and acting as a key participant in voter
education and registration programs for new U.S. citizens and
citizenship and naturalization workshops.
Gabe immigrated to
the U.S. in 1970 at the age of five from Santiago, Chile. He
currently lives in Connecticut with his wife and three daughters.
Gabe is employed as Senior Patent Counsel at Pfizer Inc. Before
that he worked in Israel as Assistant General Counsel for Teva
Pharmaceutical Industries and in private practice in Bethesda.
Gabe received his law degree from Temple University and undergraduate
degrees in biochemistry and chemistry from the University of
Massachusetts.
