Carlos Federico Acosta
Carlos Federico
Acosta, Esquire is a senior prosecutor in the Prince
George’s
County Office of the State’s Attorney. He is a member of the
Violent Crime Unit that is tasked to try homicides, serial criminals,
major recidivists and gang-related crimes. Mr. Acosta has been
recently selected as a state prosecutor to participate in a one year
assignment in the United State’s Attorney’s Office for Washington D.C.
to try serious federal drug and gun cases. He is licensed in the
State of Maryland and the District of Columbia. Prior to his joining the
prosecutor’s office, he was in private practice in the areas of criminal
defense and personal injury. He was a member of the Montgomery County
Office of the State’s Attorney from 1994 through 2000. Mr. Acosta
served as the President of the Maryland Hispanic Bar from 2001through
2002. From 2001 until 2003, he served on the Maryland
Governor’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Council. Additionally, he has also
served on the Board of Directors for the Montgomery County Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Acosta has
been adjunct professor of law at the American University Washington
College of Law from 1997. In addition to taking an active role in
mentoring new and upcoming Assistant State’s Attorneys, he is also the
current Chairman of the Internship Program for the Prince George’s
County Office of the State’s Attorney. Mr. Acosta’s own legal mentoring
began during Mr. Acosta’s judicial clerkship in 1991 for the Honorable
Vincent E. Ferretti, Jr. in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County,
Maryland.
Carlos Acosta
received both a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in
English (Rhetoric) from the University of Maryland. In 1991, he
received his Juris Doctor degree from the Southern Methodist University
School of Law in Dallas, Texas. He resides with his wife Ann-Marie
and his children Tierney and Declan in Silver Spring.
